Questions Frequently Asked at Cedar Valley Stables!

When are you open?

Weekends but our schedule depends on lots of different things like – weather, group reserved in advance,
So, our advice is always CALL AHEAD and we’ll be able to tell you our plans for the days you would like to come out.
Can you accommodate a large group?
Yes, large groups are welcomed with advanced reservations. Each person riding will need a completed Liability Release Form prior to riding.

Where will we be riding?

Cedar Valley Stables is located along the undeveloped, picturesque banks of the Cedar River. 100% of our 200+ acres of land and trails is privately owned and protected from cars, hunters, the general public. We ride along the river, through the timber, over hills, across meadows and creeks all of which will vary ride by ride depending on size ability, weather, and our professional experience.
Do you have any age or size limitations?
Every rider develops skills at their own pace therefore we request that you CALL AHEAD. As a guideline, ages 8 and up are generally able to ride independently.
A weight limit of 240 lbs is necessary to ensure the health and safety of our horses, again please CALL AHEAD.

Can we bring our own horses or dogs with us?

No, we have a few ranch dogs (our pets) and lots of horses to share, so we cannot allow people to bring their pets.

What if we’ve never ridden before?

Our goal is to make horseback riding enjoyable for everyone. With years of experience our staff and horses are able to match all skill levels from beginner to experienced riders.

Do you have lessons?

Our summer camps are a great opportunity for girls to learn about horses and equine care. Find out more about our summer camps. Please call the ranch to further discuss the possibility for lessons in the fall season.
Do you train horses?
Just our own.

Do you board horses?

Just our own.

Ranch Facts

The Ranch is the permanent home to 50 horses, 5 dogs and 3 people. However, often there are visitors staying in The Lodge or Bunk House.  Boots & Saddle Summer Camp is home to many girls  from mid-June to mid-August.  And of course there is family - Bennetts, Goodales and adopted family members are frequent visitors and helping hands.

Other things we think you should know

Most newcomers, and most repeat visitors will have new experiences and questions about the Ranch.  So, we thought knowing a few things might be helpful:

  1. Jo lives at the house, but don't go in there, it's her private home.  See Nancy in the barn.
  2. Nancy and Rich got married on June 18, 2008 - these past 20 years have just flown by.
  3. There are lots of nieces and nephews - Kelsey, Whitney, Rhett, Nathan, Alyssa, Emily, Tori, and on and on - many of whom help out at the Ranch.
  4. The dogs are special - Dimaggio has won a number of "Best in Breed" awards, Rich brought home Bear and Angel when he found them abandoned on the road.
  5. Nancy can talk, and talk, and talk.  All of that taking is no match for energy and love of horses, the ranch and people.
